The SlingStudio Console app connects to your SlingStudio using a hotspot arrangement:
- SlingStudio broadcasts a 5 GHz 802.11ac Wi-Fi hotspot/access point;
- You can then set the Console app device (such as an Apple iPad) to connect directly to the SlingStudio hotspot.
While your SlingStudio Console device is connected to the SlingStudio hotspot, it is not connected to your general Wi-Fi network—and therefore it's not connected to the Internet.
For that reason, the device can't do some usual Internet tasks like:
- Check email
- Use a web browser
- Receive updates
If you want to do those things, then you'll need to pause working on your SlingStudio project so that you can disconnect your device's Wi-Fi from the SlingStudio hotspot, and then reconnect it back to your local Wi-Fi network.
Once you're done using the Internet, you can then reconnect your device back to the SlingStudio device hotspot and resume working on your SlingStudio project.
Note that the same situation applies to the SlingStudio Capture app when it's being used on a device such as an Apple iPhone or an Android smartphone. To use the Capture app, the device running it needs to be connected directly to the SlingStudio hotspot.
If you are using your SlingStudio for live broadcasting, and your SlingStudio is connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi (or via an Ethernet cable connected to the SlingStudio USB-C Expander) then Internet service might be available to devices that are running the SlingStudio Console or Capture apps—even when their Wi-Fi is set to connect to the SlingStudio hotspot. However, you are strongly discouraged from using SlingStudio Console or Capture app devices for general Internet access. Doing this can affect both the speed and the quality of video that you are broadcasting to such destinations as YouTube or Facebook.
