How many video sources does SlingStudio support?

You can use the SlingStudio Console app to monitor and record video from up to four video sources, depending on the resolution used ... plus have more "on standby."

You can use the SlingStudio Console app to monitor, record, and switch up to four video sources simultaneously in 1080p30, 720p60, or 720p30 modes. (In 1080p60 mode, the limit is two video sources.)

And you can have even more potential video sources connected to the SlingStudio unit on "standby" and ready for you to switch to them: A total of 10 video sources can be connected to the SlingStudio unit, including the immediately-available video sources mentioned above.

How does that work?

Up to four available video sources (up to two in 1080p60 mode) appear in the Console app under the VIDEO SOURCES section. These video sources are the ones that are immediately available to go live in your production. You can monitor and/or record them simultaneously.

Along with those, you can also have more video sources (up to a total of 10) that can be connected to your SlingStudio unit but are in the background, ready to "swap out" with the video sources that are displayed in the Console app. When you swap out one of the visible video sources, the background source becomes one of the available video sources, while the source that you swapped gets put into the background for possible re-use later.

To swap out an available video source for one that is not displayed in the Console app (iPad):

  1. Tap the + symbol next to VIDEO SOURCES.
  2. Drag the available video source that you want to one of the four VIDEO SOURCES positions.
The "new" video source replaces the video source that had been in the position that you chose. That replaced video source can be made available again with another swap out procedure.

To swap out an available video source for one that is not displayed in the Console app (Mac):

  1. Click the + symbol in the upper-right corner of the VIDEO SOURCES section.
  2. Locate the video source(s) that you want to use under ADDITIONAL VIDEO SOURCES and click/drag that new video source to one of the four VIDEO SOURCES positions.
The "new" video source replaces the video source that had been in the position that you chose. That replaced video source can be made available again with another swap out procedure.

Note: Don't swap out a "new" video source into the position of a source that's currently in use in Preview or Program.

Want to rearrange the order of your video source thumbnail images? Just tap and drag (SlingStudio Console for iPad) or click and drag (SlingStudio Console for Mac) the video source thumbnails into the order that you'd like.
